We all know that they're from Classical Greek mythology and are still fascinating to us today.
My simple narrative interepretation depicts this enchanting sea goddess who discovers her own beautiful reflection, after finding the sunken 'treasure' from another world---the modern world.
Her discovery comes in layers...that of the articles from an alien world, her own reflection, and ultimately, her inner self. She wonders what could be out there, but that's another story.
If you're in search of her exotic beauty secrets, it's probably not from those sunken articles from someone's dresser.
w I used the art of Calligraphy to balance---and counterbalance the colors and composition
w I focused on the rhytmic movement of lines and patterns of light ...... to lead the viewer's eye, and to enhance the movement in her surprised gesture
w I made the the colors very aquatic and the forms, fluid. And I softened the edges with a diffused glow of light to suggest the feeling of water and mystical atmosphere
w I mixed impressionist color and texture Art Deco lighting effects and curvilinear Art Nouveau patterns like those in her wild undulating hair
w I painted entirely from imagination and worked towards my artistic vision of a sexy mermaid!
You can invent your own techniques and fantasy illustration if you have a good visualization of the idea for the painting. But you must be very persistent and willing to try new approaches.
