Art Deco Bronze Sculptures :: Leo and Aquarius

Art Deco

Although at first glance this painting may look realistic, you'll soon find that I have incorporated some art deco motifs---particularly in Leo (the lion). I was thinking of those powerful art deco bronze sculptures that have angular and stylized forms that adorn art deco buildings in New York.

I personified Aquarius, the waterbearer as an androgynous god. He could be mistaken for Tarzan or the Beastmaster by some people and that's okay with me. I have a complete set of astrological designs that I'm developing for both Crystal Island and Pop Island graphics (Album 3).

My graphic works are both high brow and low brow---as they swing wildly from fantasy art, abstract and sci-fi to tight and formal compositions. Crystal Island opens many of my graphic works (which are also paintings!).

The POP label simply gives me the freedom to explore contemporary culture and new digital media. Other reasons are:

the thought of having a destination for the painting in progress helps me visualize it in its home.

I do the graphics which is a clean break from the studio---and drinking turps by mistake

This is another side of the islands where secret treasures are hidden.
