Rendezvous...in Art Deco Fashion
While we sit and talk by the water in the French Riviera, allow me to spill some of my wine and spin you with my art talk...under the serious moonlight ;-)
I will always have an element of this exotic style integrated in my designs. This chic and jazzy art incorporates everything I have come to know about art---from ancient art to modern art and everything else in between. Art Deco has an elegant and decorative quality to it and its youthful playfulness in stylization works with my exotic subjects.
Here's a few more art deco attributes that appeal to me:
-
Art Deco style is synonymous with the Modern style. It transforms reality into dreams of optimism. Its visual language and ideals are as avant-garde as the lifestyle changes that have now moved on to a digital world
-
It is an international style. There are variations and interpretations among French, British, American, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Tropical, Mexican and Viennese artists. Some are adaptations of Tribal (African, Aboriginal, Islander), and some are Oriental (Chinois and Japonisme)
-
The style is extremely versatile. You'll find it in extraordinary architecture (ie. Chrysler building), in sculpture (Erte, Chiparus, Preiss, chryselephantine sculpture, which is a combination of ivory and bronze in small figurines) and Advertising (graphics)
- The best Art Deco objets d'art and furniture were crafted by hand and are now rare and collectible items
-
There are incredibly beautiful art glass, etched glass, vase, lamps and mirrors that glow to create that really romantic ambience. You'll find them in five star hotel lobbies and luxurious modern interiors
-
Their modern motifs which are based on machines and modern transportation like cruise ships and exotic cars are just wonderful to look at. You will find modern homes that look like cruiseliners, theatres and entertainment facades that glow with neon signs
-
World icons like the Sydney Opera House and the Tower of the Arabs in Dubai are shaped like sailboats. New man made islands are currently being developed and designed to look like a gigantic palm tree in Dubai.
-
Chic and Fashion. Elegance and sophistication. Playful optimism and stylization. Geometric and exotic...
I could go on and on... Art Deco combines different art movement styles (Cubist, Impressionist, Post-impressionist, Art nouveau, etc.). This is why I created the Exotic Mosaics where you can sample these themes and styles in my work.
In this piece, I broke away from the usual Art Deco woman who was invariably drawn with short hair. So her long hair borrows from the serpentine curves of Art Nouveau - a style that art deco deviated from in many ways.
I hope Rendezvous helps illustrate what I'm trying to say... I have more to upload. You can also find other chic and vintage fashion illustrations and art deco ephemera below...
