On the Beach
What I love about impressionist painting is the freedom to work with color. It's one of the most personal attributes that gives the artist an individual voice.
Artistic license takes many forms and one of them is the power to express emotion through the use of color.
To most artists, color is the devil. It can ruin a perfect drawing because there is a great temptation to use too many colors.
Often, the artist is too eager to express his or her own favorite color at the expense of a bigger idea in the painting. The most common mistake among impressionist artists is getting carried away with loud colors that are tonally off.

Color Your World
Nature provides us with unlimited colors. The paint can only suggest the extremes of light and shade and intensity. Our challenge is to make the viewer forget that our tools are limited in capturing true light.
When a person is asked what she remembers after viewing a group of artworks, you'd usually get this...'the one with crystalline aquamarine blue water ...or that silvery field of sky...lush emerald green meadows, rusty rocks with glints of amber and gold'...chances are it's the color.
So color your world. Invest time with your partner on a vacation and live your life and art in the great outdoors. Create special memories of your work---and play with both your camera and sketchbook.
When it's time to face your blank canvas, your experiences in the field will cast a tone or mood in your palette. And this will just happen unconsciously. The more intense your experiences, the more colorful your art and life becomes.
I sometimes think of color like one's personality--- or more specifically, one's attitude. It has a lot to do with how you want others to feel about what you say or do.
Color is in its own universe. We will discuss it in greater depth in the Studio Articles and other relevant sections. There is so much to cover so stay tuned. We haven't even scratched the surface yet.
Meantime, you can cruise and get into how color relates to emotional intelligence. Art, graphics, fashion, decor...etc. Boom! now we got a lot on the table! What's your take on this?
